Kaido Wins
The chapter narrates Kaido as the winner. Kaido crushes CP0 Leader and moves inside the dome where he declares his win. He also declares that Luffy is dead and Momo must surrender.
On this, Nami comments that he is a liar and in return, Kaido fires a blast breath. Fortunately, Marco comes in clutch and saves her. Kidd, Law, Nekomamushi, Carrot all get ready to fight Kaido.
We Die Together
When Momo listens to Kaido, he decides to surrender to save all the innocent lives. When he decides to finally give up, Yamato stops him. Yamato tells him that rather than live under Kaido’s rule, she would prefer to die.
She tells Momo “Let’s Die Together”. Just then, someone interrupts Momo and they have a brief chat.
Drums Of Liberation
Zunesha interrupts Momo and his chat with Yamato. Zunesha says that “He” is back. He also says that he could hear the Drums Of Liberation. Something that he hasn’t heard in 800 years.
When Momo asks him about who is returning, Zunesha replies with “Joyboy”. Also, in the last panel of the chapter, we see Luffy with a grin on his face with something slimy oozing from his face.
Also, his eyes are covered. True fans know that shit is about to go down when you can’t see Luffy’s eyes. Let’s see what happens this time now that Kaido is declared the winner and he tries to hurt Luffy’s friends.

Luffy or Joyboy?
In the last panel of the last chapter, we see that Luffy is smiling. He was declared dead but he seems to be smiling and something oozes out of him.
Behind the scenes, Zunesha tells Momo that Joyboy is returning and he can hear the Drums Of Liberation which he hasn’t heard in 800 years. We know that Zunesha committed a crime 800 years ago.
Also, the void century was 800 years ago too. So it may be that Joyboy and Zunesha were accomplices in their crime. So the speculations that Luffy is Joyboy might actually be true.
Gomu-Gomu No Mi Awakening?
Another speculation is that the slimy thing could be a result of the Gomu-Gomu No Mi awakening. We have seen what the awakening of a devil fruit could be like. The awakening of Ito Ito No Mi gave Doflamingo complete control over the terrain.
Luffy has already shown that he has mastered the Gomu Gomu No Mi by controlling its trajectory. Kaido even said that it should not be possible but Luffy has done it. If his df awakens, then his control would be over the top.
And with that, Luffy would be an OP main character. Ayanokouji is also an OP character in a similar way and he is returning with Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 which is a must-watch. So, set your watches.

One Piece chapters come out on a weekly basis. The last chapter came out on 14 March 2022. So One Piece Chapter 1044 release date is 21 March 2022. Recently, the servers of Toei Animation got hacked.
This resulted in a delay in the release of upcoming One Piece episodes. But Toei animation has nothing to do with the upcoming chapters so there shouldn’t be any delay in the release of this chapter.
